Begin Again

The tick of a clock

the ring of a bell

the gasp and sigh of a ventilator

the mask on a face

zooming with colleagues

family and friends

listening breathing uncertainty

violence disbelief and fear

366 days to spin and slow dance

our way

around the sun

only to arrive

at where we may begin again

The plunge of vaccinating needles
the need to be whole
new ways to love and work
together in
bearing such loss
taking responsibility
picking up the joyful burden
listening breathing creation
belief in helping healing learning

366 days to spin and slow dance

our way

around the sun

only to arrive

at where we may begin

again

  1. I love this poem, Judi. It captures so much of what this year was like for so many and still gives us your own personal “spin.” If you ever decide to self-publish a book of poetry, I would be glad to help you with the cover and putting it together. I’m still looking to donate a free cover to an book of poetry, and I would consider it an honor to help you. John

  2. John ,you are so kind. Thank you for the offer which I would gladly take you up on when/if I decide to self publish. I have just returned to Kendal after 2 weeks at my daughter’s house and I was lucky to be able to be with family and my 13 month old grandson as he gains new ways of understanding and engaging in his world every single day. I stay in my room for two weeks now in quarantine and look at it as a retreat except for the occasional committee meetings online. Time to turn inwards with the winter and see where I land. I receive my first Covid vaccination towards the end of the month. Wow. More good fortune to live in an Ohio retirement community that is designated as first to be attended to. xoJ

    AND SPIN

    AND WHIRL

    EVEN THE MOMENTS OF DIZZINESS

    GIVE ME A THRILL

    AND A SENSE OF …..

IS THERE A RIGHT COMBINATION OF WORDS

    I’LL GO WTIH

    ALIVENESS.

    Retreat well dear Judi.
